Dr. Frank Lewis is a Senior Lecturer in Organic Chemistry at Northumbria University's Department of Applied Sciences. His research designs ligands for selective actinide ion removal from nuclear fuels, with applications in waste reprocessing and neurodegenerative disease treatment.
He obtained his PhD from Trinity College Dublin (2008), followed by postdoctoral work at the University of Reading on EU-funded nuclear fuel reprocessing projects (ACSEPT). Since joining Northumbria in 2012, his work has spanned nuclear chemistry and medicinal applications of metal chelators. Recent publications focus on actinide separation efficiency and neuroprotective chelators for Parkinson's disease.
