Frank Hamrick serves as Professor and MFA Graduate Program Coordinator at Louisiana Tech University's School of Design in Ruston, Louisiana. An acclaimed book artist, his work bridges photography, papermaking, and letterpress printing to explore Southern US cultural identity and environmental themes.
His research focuses on artist's book creation through wet plate collodion tintype processes, hand papermaking, and letterpress typography. Hamrick treats books as complete musical albums rather than single images, using layered materials to address water systems, coastal erosion, and personal narratives of 'home.' His practice emphasizes material-based storytelling where handmade books become 'starting places' generating questions rather than providing answers.
Hamrick's work has earned significant recognition including the 2017 Houston Center for Photography Fellowship and First Place in the LA Festival of Photography Photobook Competition. His pieces reside in major collections such as The Amon Carter Museum of American Art and The Art Institute of Chicago.

His studio practice at Penland School of Craft demonstrates commitment to craft education beyond Louisiana Tech. Current projects continue exploring water-related themes through limited edition artist books with meticulous attention to material processes.
