Frank Dekker is an Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Epigenetics at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Science and Engineering. He holds dual affiliations with the Chemical and Pharmaceutical Biology departments and the Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy. His work focuses on developing small molecule inhibitors and bioorthogonal chemistry tools to study epigenetic regulation in inflammatory diseases.
- Programme Director for the Medical Pharmaceutical Sciences (MPS) master's program
- Education Director of the Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy (GRIP)
Research interests include histone acetyltransferases (HATs), lipoxygenases (LOX), and their roles in NF-kB signaling pathways. Key projects involve creating novel detection methods for protein acetylation and designing anti-inflammatory therapies targeting epigenetic mechanisms.
Recent publications (2024-2025) highlight advances in CAR T-cell efficacy enhancement via MIF inhibition, lipoxygenase inhibitors, and epigenetic drug discovery. His work bridges medicinal chemistry, molecular biology, and pharmacology.
- Recipient of a €1.5M ERC Starting Grant (2012-2018)
- NWO VIDI Grant (€800k, 2012-2017)
Advisees include 12 PhD students since 2013, with collaborative projects involving Prof. Poelarends and Prof. Olinga. Active in EU COST actions and international conferences on chemical biology and epigenetics.
