Frank C. Owens

Dr. Frank C. Owens is an Associate Professor at the Department of Sustainable Bioproducts, Mississippi State University. With a Ph.D. in Forest Resources and graduate degrees in International Studies and International Relations, he combines technical expertise with global industry experience. Fluent in Japanese, he has lived in East Asia and the Middle East for eight years, focusing on global wood product marketing and sustainable supply chain development.

His research spans two primary domains: computer vision applications for wood identification (including the XyloTron system and WhatWood? apps) and statistical analysis of lumber mechanical properties. He has developed field-deployable tools for combating illegal logging and contributed extensive work on modulus of elasticity/rupture distributions in commercial lumber populations.
