Dr. Franco Zanini serves as an Adjunct Professor of Chemistry of Cultural Heritage at the Postgraduate School of Archaeology, University of Trieste, while concurrently holding a beamline scientist position at SYRMEP (X-ray microimaging and microtomography beamline) of Elettra-Sincrotrone Trieste in Italy. He leads the Cultural Heritage Project at Elettra and participates as a LINXS Fellow and GeoArchaeology Working Group member within the LINXS research community.
His research integrates synchrotron-based imaging techniques with archaeological investigation, specializing in non-destructive analysis of cultural artifacts through X-ray microtomography and microimaging. This work bridges chemistry, materials science, and archaeology to develop preservation methodologies for historical objects, with particular emphasis on geoarchaeological applications and chemical characterization of heritage materials.
Dr. Zanini directs the Cultural Heritage Project at Elettra-Sincrotrone Trieste, utilizing advanced imaging infrastructure for artifact analysis, while contributing to LINXS initiatives through the GeoArchaeology Working Group to advance interdisciplinary approaches in cultural heritage science.
