Franco Wong is a Professor of Accounting at the Paul Merage School of Business, University of California, Irvine. He has held faculty positions at the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Chicago, INSEAD, and the University of Toronto, where he served in leadership roles including Accounting Area Coordinator and Director of Faculty Recruiting.
His research interests include:
- Financial accounting and reporting
- Earnings quality
- Emerging technology in accounting
- Textual analysis and alternative data
- Analyst research and security valuation
- Employee stock options and share repurchases
- Sustainability and blockchain-related disclosures
His scholarly work explores how accounting information is produced, disclosed, and used in capital markets for valuation and contracting. He has investigated topics such as the impact of ESO accounting on corporate investment, the pricing of Internet stocks, and the role of analysts in interpreting financial statement notes. His recent focus includes the integration of emerging technologies like blockchain and big data analytics into financial reporting.
Professor Wong has delivered over 100 presentations worldwide and co-organized eight academic conferences across Canada, China, and France, in addition to helping organize three conferences on emerging technologies for finance professionals. His contributions to education include co-authoring a textbook on IFRS and receiving teaching excellence awards from both the Haas and Rotman Schools.
