Franck Orban is an Associate Professor at the Department of Languages, Literature and Culture (SLIK) at Østfold University College in Norway. His research focuses on French politics, international relations, terrorism studies, and European security policy. Born in France in 1966, he holds a PhD from the University of Oslo (2009) and has held academic and research roles since 1995, including at the Norwegian Correctional Service's College and Education Center (2009–2014).
He has authored over 30 publications, including books and articles on topics such as French foreign policy strategies, hybrid warfare, and the political impacts of terrorism. Notable works include *Déclin ou décadence de la France* (2016) and *Sowing the Seeds of Distrust?* (2024). Orban co-hosts the podcast *France Explained* and leads the AreaS research group at Østfold. His awards include the Knight in the Order of the Academic Palms (France, 2022) and the Dissemination Prize from HiØ (2017).
Research interests span French geopolitical strategy, populism’s impact on democracy, and the societal effects of terrorism. Recent work examines foreign cyber interference in elections and the ripple effects of legal actions post-terrorist attacks. He teaches courses on French culture, foreign policy, and democratic culture.
