Francisco de Leon is a Professor and Director of Undergraduate Programs at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He joined NYU in 2007, achieving tenure in 2013 and promotion to full Professor in 2019. His research focuses on power system transients, transformer design, cable technology, and machine design. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery.
With over $6M in external funding, he has supervised 29 PhD, 31 MSc students, and 20 postdoctoral researchers. His work includes 130+ journal papers, 50+ conference papers, and 18 patents, cited over 7,300 times in Google Scholar. Key contributions include advancements in grid flexibility, transformer performance, and sustainable energy systems.
Research labs include the Power Lab (specializing in power systems) and the Center for Advanced Technology in Telecommunications (CATT). His IEEE Life Fellow status reflects his impactful contributions to the field of electrical engineering.
