Dr. Francisco Perlas Dumanig is an Associate Professor of English and TESOL Program Coordinator at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociolinguistics from the University of Malaya. His research focuses on language and identity, Southeast Asian Englishes, discourse analysis, and language policy. Previously, he served as Senior Lecturer at the University of Malaya and taught in the Philippines, Malaysia, the Middle East, and the U.S.
He has published extensively on topics such as language policy in education, migration linguistics, and cross-cultural communication. His work has appeared in journals like Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development and Language Policy. He has received notable awards including the 2021 College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Achievement Award and the IMRF Distinguished Inspiring Best Teacher Award 2020.
Dr. Dumanig teaches courses such as ESL Materials and Methods, Global Englishes, and Second Language Acquisition Theory. His current research examines family language policy among Filipinos in Hawaii and caregiver communication in healthcare settings.
