Francisco Gonzalez is a Professor of Philosophy specializing in Continental Philosophy, Ancient Greek Philosophy, and Hermeneutics. His research critically engages with Martin Heidegger’s interpretations of Aristotle, particularly focusing on Aristotle’s concepts of dunamis and energeia. His current major project, funded by SSHRC grants since 2010, reconstructs Heidegger’s unpublished 1920s seminars on Aristotle to challenge Heidegger’s ontological assumptions. Additional research areas include Heidegger’s political thought in the Black Notebooks, his reading of Plato’s Parmenides, and the philosophical implications of Aristotle’s biological works.
Education: PhD in Philosophy (University of Toronto, 1991), MA (1987), BA (1986). His teaching includes advanced courses on Plato’s Protagoras, Aristotle’s De Anima, and contemporary continental engagements with ancient philosophy.
Research interests span Aristotle’s metaphysics and biology, Heidegger’s phenomenology, and hermeneutical approaches to classical texts. His work bridges existential philosophy with ancient Greek thought, emphasizing ontological debates and conceptual reinterpretations.
Grants: SSHRC-funded projects since 2010. No scientific awards explicitly listed. Advising and mentoring details not provided in texts.
