Dr. Francesco Ricatti is an Associate Professor of Italian Studies at The Australian National University (ANU), convening the Italian Studies program. His research focuses on decolonial migration history, transcultural studies, and the role of art/sport in migrant communities. He holds a PhD from the University of Sydney and a BA from Sapienza University in Rome.
Key research interests include Italian-Australian migration narratives, Indigenous-decolonial methodologies, and football's socio-cultural impact. His work is supported by National Geographic, the Scanlon Foundation, and Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Recent projects explore grandparenting in Australia (2025–2028) and 'Youth in the City' transcultural initiatives. He collaborates with The Migration Hub, emphasizing transnational dialogues and participatory art projects.
Publications highlight themes like migrant youth agency, sport-driven assimilation processes, and rethinking Italian diaspora through decolonial lenses. His work bridges historical analysis with contemporary socio-cultural practices.
