Dr. Francesco Restuccia is a Senior Lecturer in Engineering at King's College London and an Honorary Lecturer at Imperial College London. His primary affiliation is with the Department of Engineering under the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences at King's. He holds a PhD from Imperial College London (2018), an MS from Caltech (2014), and an MEng from the University of Edinburgh (2012).
His research focuses on thermal sciences, including lithium-ion battery safety, wildfire dynamics, and waste-heat recovery. Key areas include thermal runaway in batteries, fire safety engineering, and smouldering combustion processes. He has published extensively on battery fire modeling, ignition mechanisms, and interdisciplinary wildfire studies.
Dr. Restuccia leads the Leverhulme Centre for Wildfires, Environment and Society and co-leads the Hazelab (Imperial College) research group. He received the 2019 Imperial College Student Wellbeing Champion Award and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His work integrates experimental and computational methods to address energy storage safety and climate-related fire hazards.
Notable collaborations include projects with Imperial College's Turbo Group (Dr. Aaron Costall) and the Caltech Department of Engineering. He has advised on battery safety standards, wildfire prediction models, and sustainable energy systems.
