Francesco Agostinelli is the Janice and Julian Bers Assistant Professor in the Social Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania's Department of Economics. He holds affiliations with the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), the Human Capital and Economic Opportunity Global Working Group (HCEO) at the University of Chicago, and the Stone Center for Research on Wealth Inequality and Mobility. His research focuses on child development, applied microeconomics, labor economics, and public policy, particularly analyzing determinants of children’s skill formation and parental decision-making.
Education includes a PhD from Arizona State University (2018), MA from Collegio Carlo Alberto (2012), and MSc/BSc from the University of Ancona, Italy. He has received the Kravis Award for Undergraduate Teaching (2024) and secured grants totaling over $166k for research on educational access and social justice.
Key research themes include the interplay between parenting, neighborhood effects, and policy interventions. His work explores how family investments, school environments, and socioeconomic factors shape child outcomes. Recent studies analyze pandemic impacts on education, spatial determinants of educational access, and scalable human capital strategies.
