Francesca Ribas Prats

Francesca Ribas Prats is an Associate Professor at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), affiliated with the Department of Physics and the Castelldefels School of Telecommunications and Aerospace Engineering. She holds a PhD in Physics from UPC (2004) and a Bachelor's in Physics from the University of Barcelona (1998). Her research focuses on coastal morphodynamics, particularly the physical processes governing sedimentary coastlines under climate change, including shoreline evolution, sediment transport, and self-organization patterns.

Her work integrates theoretical studies using numerical modeling and stability analysis, alongside experimental methods like video imagery analysis. Key areas include coastal engineering applications, megacusps, and long-term coastal projections under sea-level rise. She has authored over 20 JCR-indexed articles, participated in 70+ conferences, and supervised 2 PhD theses. She also contributes to national and international research projects addressing coastal sustainability.

Teaching responsibilities include fluid mechanics, physics, and engineering courses at UPC. Her research group, part of the Nonlinear Fluid Dynamics Group, explores topics like shoreline sand waves and the impact of climate change on coastal systems.
