Francesca Medaglia

Francesca Medaglia is a Researcher (RTDB, SSD: L-FIL-LET/14) at the Department of Modern Literature and Culture within the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy at Sapienza University of Rome. She earned her Ph.D. in Italianistics (2013) from Sapienza University and completed postdoctoral work at UCL (2015-2016) through a British Academy scholarship. Her research focuses on authorship theory, transmedia storytelling, collective writing, and female migration narratives, with a particular interest in 20th-century artistic avant-gardes and metamodern literary forms.

Her research explores the boundaries between author and character in contemporary literature and transmedia works, analyzing narrative complexity, ergodic literature, and intermediality in transcultural contexts. Recent publications address the ethical dimensions of serialized television, the role of mythology in modern storytelling, and the spatiotemporal structures in shows like The Good Place. She has authored four monographs, including Autore/personaggio: interferenze, complicazioni e scambi di ruolo (2020).

The scientific awards she has received include a British Academy Postdoctoral Scholarship (2015-2016) from the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei and a Benno Geiger Scholarship (2016) for archival research on Futurist collaborations. She has also served on the editorial office of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei and the directorial committee of the Cape Verde Studies Center at the University of Salento.

Her teaching roles include courses in Literary Criticism and Comparative Literature at Sapienza University, covering topics such as transmedia narratives, author-character dynamics, and 20th-century literary movements. She advises students on narrative theory and transmedial analysis through institutional email appointments.
