Francesca Lagioia

Francesca Lagioia is Associate Professor of Legal Informatics, AI and Law, and Ethics for AI at the University of Bologna's Department of Legal Sciences, with a secondary appointment as Part-time Professor at the European University Institute. Her research examines legal frameworks for artificial intelligence systems including algorithmic fairness, explainability, data protection, and liability.

Primary research domains span: computational law applications, AI's impact on consumer rights and democratic processes, copyright implications of AI-generated content, and normative modeling in socio-technical systems. She leads the PRIN2022 project 'EQUAL' focused on countering algorithmic discrimination.

Recognition includes the Italian National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor (2020) and previous Max Weber Postdoctoral Fellowship.
