Francesca Bunkenborg is a Researcher in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Göttingen since April 2024. She holds a PhD in Philosophy from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (2024), with a dissertation focusing on moral certainty and uncertainty. Her research interests span Metaethics, Moral Epistemology, Normative Ethics, Virtue Theory, and the History of Moral Philosophy. She has held research positions at Stockholm University (2019), University of Toronto (2020), and was part of the Einstein Ethics Group within the TOPOI Excellence Cluster in Berlin (2017-2020). Awards include a Fulbright Scholarship and support from the German National Academic Foundation.
Her work examines moral evaluation, epistemic justification of moral beliefs, and ethical reasoning under uncertainty. Notable contributions include analyses of supererogatory acts, virtue differentiation (modesty vs. humility), and conceptual engineering in moral theory. She has presented at leading international conferences such as the European Congress of Analytic Philosophy and the Deutscher Kongress für Philosophie.
Awards and fellowships include the Fulbright Scholarship and the German National Academic Foundation's grants for both undergraduate and doctoral studies. Her research has been supported through affiliations with institutions like the LMU Munich Ethics Center and the FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg Institute of Philosophy.
