Francesc Xavier Guix Ràfols is an Assistant Professor at the Bioengineering Department of the IQS School of Engineering, Universitat Ramon Llull. He holds a Bachelor's in Biology and a PhD in Health and Life Sciences. His research focuses on neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's and diabetes-related cognitive decline, with expertise in extracellular vesicles and neuronal mechanisms.
Key projects include leading the ADEVs Kit project (Early Alzheimer's detection) and co-leading the DiaAD project exploring diabetes-Alzheimer's comorbidity. He is part of the GEMAT research group (Materials Engineering) and has published over 30 articles since 2005, with 1,697 citations. His work spans molecular mechanisms of neuroprotection, bioelectric stimulation effects, and in vitro models of neurodegeneration.
Research interests include amyloid beta pathways, oxidative stress, and neuronal maturation. Collaborations involve neurobiology and bioengineering teams globally. Grants include funding from AGAUR and the Departament de Recerca i Universitats.
