Frances Wymbs is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at Ohio University's Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is also affiliated with the Center for Intervention Research in Schools and the Diabetes Institute, conducting research and clinical work focused on children, adolescents, and families with complex behavioral and emotional challenges.
Her research centers on improving access to and engagement in evidence-based interventions for youth with externalizing and internalizing disorders, particularly Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). She specializes in adapting and delivering parent-based behavioral treatments in primary care, school, and community settings, with a focus on underserved and 'hard-to-reach' families facing socioeconomic and environmental stressors.
Dr. Wymbs integrates methodologies from clinical psychology, public health, and behavioral economics to study consumer preferences for treatment models. Her work aims to strengthen patient-provider relationships and increase family participation in mental health care within integrated care systems.
She has been involved in federally funded research for over 15 years and has secured grants from private agencies to support her initiatives in pediatric behavioral health. She mentors graduate and medical students interested in clinical child and pediatric psychology.
