Professor Frances Weightman is a leading scholar in Chinese literature at the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies, University of Leeds, within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures. She is the Founding Director of The Leeds Centre for New Chinese Writing and has been a core faculty member since 2001.

Her research focuses on Chinese fiction across historical periods, with particular expertise in authorial identity, paratexts, and Chinese-English literary translation. She has increasingly focused on contemporary Chinese literature and its translation and dissemination in English-speaking contexts. Her current work includes a monograph on Chinese children’s authors for the Bloomsbury Perspectives on Children’s Literature series.
