Professor Frances Spalding is an Affiliated Lecturer in the Department of History of Art at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Clare Hall. She holds a Master of Arts (M.A.) and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). Her research focuses on art history, with particular emphasis on Medieval and Renaissance Visual Culture, 18th- and 19th-century art, and modern/contemporary art. She has been actively involved in organizing international conferences, such as the 'People’s Art School and Unovis in Vitebsk' event in collaboration with the Van Abbemuseum.
Her academic contributions include work with research centers like the Cambridge Courtauld Russian Art Centre (CCRAC) and engagement with interdisciplinary seminars on visual culture. Recognized for her expertise, she has received honors such as the CBE and FRSL.
