Dr. Frances Kneupper is an Associate Professor of History in the Department of History at the College of Liberal Arts, University of Mississippi. Her research and teaching focus on religious and cultural dynamics of the Late Middle Ages, particularly heresy, prophecy, gender, and dissent.
- Education: B.S. in History from Rice University (1994), M.A. and Ph.D. in History from Northwestern University (2005, 2011).
Dr. Kneupper's scholarship examines spiritual authority and reform in late medieval Europe, as seen in her book The Empire at the End of Time: Identity and Reform in Late Medieval German Prophecy. Her current work investigates practices of compassion in the Late Middle Ages and explores how digital media enhances historical pedagogy, including her digital textbook Foundations of European History through 1500 and an online lecture series on the Middle Ages.
Scientific Awards:
- Senior Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Study, Central European University, Budapest.
- Fellow at the International Consortium for Research in the Humanities, University of Erlangen.
She has also held fellowships at the University of Erlangen and CEU Budapest, integrating digital tools into teaching European history, medieval studies, and women's roles in historical contexts.
