Max Planck Institute for Sustainable Materialsمعرفی
Fotis Tsiolis is a Doctoral Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Sustainable Materials (MPI-SusMat) in Düsseldorf, Germany, affiliated with the Department of Microstructure Physics and Alloy Design within the Theory and Simulation group. He concurrently serves as a PhD Candidate in Integrated Computational Materials Engineering through a bi-national program between MPI-SusMat and the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), funded by a DAAD scholarship.
His academic credentials include:
- PhD Candidate in Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME), NTUA & MPI-SusMat (November 2024–present)
- M.Eng. in Mining & Metallurgical Engineering, NTUA (2016–2021), awarded summa cum laude
Tsiolis specializes in computational modeling of thermomechanical processing for non-heat-treatable aluminium alloys, with core expertise in crystal plasticity (DAMASK framework), recrystallization (Cellular Automata), and CALPHAD thermodynamics/kinetics. His research develops predictive tools linking thermomechanical history to microstructural evolution and anisotropy, directly addressing sustainability challenges in recycled-content alloy design.
Key recognitions include:
- DAAD Bi-nationally supervised doctoral programme scholarship
- summa cum laude distinction for Master of Engineering
Funded by the DAAD scholarship, his current project integrates DAMASK crystal plasticity with Cellular Automata recrystallization modeling to create a through-process simulation framework for hot rolling of aluminium alloys. This work bridges thermomechanical processing parameters with final material properties for sustainable manufacturing.
As a core member of MPI-SusMat's Theory and Simulation group, Tsiolis contributes to the institute's Microstructure Physics and Alloy Design department, advancing computational methodologies for next-generation sustainable materials development.
