Forrest Lane, PhD, is the Dean of the Office of Research and Graduate Studies at Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) since 2024. His academic career spans roles such as Associate Dean at Sam Houston State University's College of Education (2022-2023), Department Chair in Educational Leadership (2019-2022), and Program Coordinator for Higher Education MA (2017-2019). He holds a PhD in Educational Research and a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration from the University of North Texas, along with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Texas A&M University.

Lane's research focuses on student success, particularly in first-year seminars, developmental mathematics, and online learning environments. With over 80 publications, including articles and book chapters, Lane has secured $3 million in externally funded grants. His scientific awards include the Greater Texas Foundation Faculty Fellow and Sam Houston State University Faculty Administrative Fellow. Lane has also served as past-editor of the Journal of The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition and as past-president of the Southwest Educational Research Association.
