Folkert W. Asselbergs is a Full Professor of Precision Medicine at University College London (Institute of Health Informatics and Institute of Cardiovascular Science) and University Medical Center Utrecht, University of Utrecht. He serves as Director of the NIHR BRC UCL/UCLH Clinical and Research Informatics Unit, Chair of the Center for Circulatory Health at UMC Utrecht, and Chair of the Data Infrastructure for the Dutch Cardiovascular Alliance (DCVA). As a consultant cardiologist and associate editor for the European Heart Journal (Digital Health and Innovation), his work bridges clinical practice, research, and data infrastructure development.
Professor Asselbergs' research focuses on cardiovascular disease, precision medicine, and health informatics. He leverages advanced technologies like cardiac MRI and genetic variant analysis to investigate pre-clinical markers of cardiomyopathies, while also contributing to population health studies in dietary patterns and global health disparities. His work extends to cardio-oncology and Mendelian randomization analysis for heart failure and atrial fibrillation.
His publications span genome-wide association studies, clinical trial design, and computational biology, reflecting a strong trend toward integrating genetic, imaging, and epidemiological data. This interdisciplinary approach aligns with his leadership roles in national and international cardiovascular research initiatives.
