Florin Tătui is an Associate Professor at the Meteorology-Hydrology Department of the Faculty of Geography, University of Bucharest. He is also a member of the Sfântu Gheorghe Marine and River Research Station and affiliated with the Research Institute of the University of Bucharest (ICUB-GEODAR) and the Center for Risk Studies. His research focuses on coastal dynamics, rip currents, and climate impacts on coastal systems. He actively contributes to public science through the UB Dose of Science series, addressing critical issues like Black Sea rip currents, which claim 30+ lives annually.
- Research Interests: Coastal geomorphology, hydrodynamics, climate-driven coastal changes, and fluvial-marine interactions.
- Key Projects: Leader of the RORIP project studying rip currents, with findings revealing 55% of analyzed Black Sea beaches are frequently affected by these currents.
- Teaching: Courses in Oceanography and Black Sea Geography.
He collaborates with lifeguard services and public authorities to mitigate rip current risks through awareness campaigns and legislative changes. His work bridges academic research with societal impact, emphasizing disaster prevention and coastal zone management.
