Dr. Eli Lazarus is an Associate Professor in Geomorphology at the University of Southampton's School of Geography & Environmental Science. His research focuses on coastal and fluvial dynamics, human-environmental coupled systems, and the neoenvironment. He leads the Leverhulme Doctoral Scholarships Programme for Interdisciplinary Resilience Studies and has supervised PhD students like Sofia Nadime Aldabet Munoz. Lazarus holds a PhD from Duke University (2009) and a BA from Williams College (2004). His work spans field observations, remote sensing, and numerical modeling, addressing resilience in coastal systems.
Research interests include coastal resilience to sea-level rise, fluvial geomorphology in tropical rainforests, and the impact of human activities on sediment pathways. He collaborates with institutions like the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute and co-leads projects such as CoastalRES. Lazarus serves on the editorial board of Anthropocene Coasts since 2017.
Publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches to coastal dynamics, including blue-carbon accumulation in tidal wetlands and storm-driven sediment flux. His research emphasizes integrating socio-economic factors with environmental processes to inform sustainable adaptation strategies.
