Florian Strauß is a Junior Research Group Leader at the Institute of Nanotechnology (INT) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), leading the project Tailored Electrolytes for Lithium Solid-State Batteries funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). He is affiliated with the KIT/BASF Joint Laboratory BELLA, where he conducts research on advanced battery materials and systems.
Education:
- M.Sc. in Inorganic Chemistry, Technical University of Munich (2011–2013)
- B.Sc. in Chemistry, Technical University of Munich (2007–2011)
- Co-shared Ph.D. at the National Institute of Chemistry Slovenia, University of Ljubljana (2013–2016), and Collège de France/UPMC Paris (2013–2016)
Research Focus: Dr. Strauß specializes in developing ceramic solid electrolytes for lithium solid-state batteries, aiming to optimize their ionic conductivity, electrochemical stability, and mechanical flexibility. His work addresses critical challenges in battery technology, including interface formation between electrolytes and electrodes, scalable synthesis processes, and performance degradation caused by side reactions.
Funding & Awards:
- Liebig Fellowship (2020–2022)
- BMBF-funded Junior Research Group (2022–present)
Team Members: His team includes postdocs Dr. Jensheer Shamsudeen Seenath and Dr. Dhanush Yashwant Shanbhag, as well as Ph.D. candidates Jingui Yang, Siyuan Guo, and Maik Schmitt. These researchers contribute to material development, synthesis, and battery characterization within the MELLi project.
