Florian Kragulj

Florian Kragulj is a Senior Scientist (Privatdozent) at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU), where he conducts research and teaches in the Department of Knowledge Management. He heads the Digital Transformation and Knowledge Transfer in Commerce and Crafts department, focusing on the intersection of knowledge management, organizational learning, and practical wisdom.

His academic journey includes:

• Habilitation (with distinction) from Vienna University of Economics and Business, developing a needs-knowledge-based organizational theory
• Research-oriented Master's degree in cognitive science from the University of Vienna (with distinction), part of a joint program with multiple Central European universities
• Bachelor's degree in business administration from Vienna University of Economics and Business

Dr. Kragulj's research centers on knowledge-based management and organizational learning, with particular emphasis on needs-knowledge as a foundation for organizational theory. His work explores how practical wisdom (phronesis) can enhance sustainable business practices and corporate social responsibility. He investigates the relationship between knowledge management and sustainability, developing frameworks for needs-based organizational transformation.

His recent publications (2020-2025) demonstrate a clear evolution toward integrating practical wisdom with knowledge management for sustainability. The research shows increasing focus on organizational phronesis, ethical decision-making, and the role of needs-knowledge in creating sustainable value. His work bridges philosophical concepts with practical business applications, particularly in the context of digital transformation.

Dr. Kragulj has received distinctions for both his doctoral and habilitation work. His research has been supported by multiple projects spanning from 2009 to 2025, with increased activity in recent years.

He collaborates extensively with colleagues including Alexander Kaiser, Clemens Kerschbaum, and Rui Rocha on knowledge management initiatives. His teaching focuses on organizational learning and non-rational knowledge for business students and practitioners.
