Florian Hett is a Professor of Digital Economics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, affiliated with the Gutenberg School of Management and Economics (GSME). He holds leadership roles in multiple research entities including the Frankfurt Laboratory for Experimental Economic Research (FLEX), Mainz Behavioral and Experimental Laboratory (MABELLA), and the Research unit Interdisciplinary Public Policy (IPP). His research focuses on behavioral economics, financial decision-making, social identity, and network dynamics.
Key research areas include causal machine learning applications in economics, political polarization mechanisms, and the behavioral underpinnings of financial choices. He has conducted large-scale field experiments involving over 500,000 participants, demonstrating how digital footprints improve intervention effectiveness. His work also explores macroeconomic phenomena like negative interest rate impacts and multinational corporate competitiveness.
Notable achievements include the Sturm & Drang Prize for his research on financial crisis bailout expectations.
