Florian Bartholomae is a Professor of Economics at Munich Business School (MBS), where he teaches basic economics and mathematics courses at the bachelor's level and advanced economics courses at the master's level. He also serves as a private lecturer at the Institute for Economics and Law of the Global Economy at the Bundeswehr University of Munich and as an external lecturer at the IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems. Additionally, he is a partner in the policy consultancy Bartholomae & Schoenberg Partnership.
His research focuses on the economics of the information society and regional economics, with specific expertise in digitalization impacts, game theory applications, and urban economic development. Professor Bartholomae has conducted significant research on urban shrinkage and resurgence patterns in German cities, particularly in Eastern Germany, and has published influential work on bitcoin economics and principal-agent theory. His recent work includes analyzing the economic impacts of the coronavirus pandemic and studying different digitization patterns across industries.
His publications span diverse economic subfields, with notable contributions to understanding cryptocurrency price determinants, urban economic development patterns, and information economics. Professor Bartholomae regularly presents his research at major international conferences, including the Annual North American Meetings of the Regional Science Association International. His work often examines the intersection of theoretical economic models with practical business applications, particularly in the context of digital transformation and regional economic development.
Professor Bartholomae has collaborated extensively with researchers including Alina Schoenberg from IMC Krems, Prof. Dr. Nam from the ifo Institute, and Prof. Dr. Eva Stumpfegger. His research has been published in journals such as CESifo Forum and WISU – Das Wirtschaftsstudium, with approximately 34 published articles to date. He has also presented his findings at major international conferences including the Regional Science Association International meetings in Pittsburgh and San Antonio.
His teaching includes the Game Theory module in the Certified Strategy Manager program, where he applies economic theory to real-world business strategy problems. Professor Bartholomae has also written about economic aspects of cultural phenomena including Christmas and Easter traditions, demonstrating the practical applications of economic theory to everyday life.
