Prof. Dr. Philipp Bartholomä serves as the Professor of Practical Theology and Head of the Department of Practical Theology at Theological Faculty Gießen (FTH Gießen). He also holds the role of Vice-Rector and is based at Rathenaustraße 5–7, 35394 Gießen. His research focuses on practical theology with an emphasis on church building, stemming from his postdoctoral work at VU University Amsterdam and doctoral studies in New Testament theology at the Evangelical Theological Faculty (ETF) in Leuven, Belgium. He has extensive pastoral experience as a pastor of the Er-lebt congregation in Landau/Pfalz from 1999 to 2019.
Education highlights include a Master of Sacred Theology (STM) from Dallas Theological Seminary, an MA in Biblical & Theological Studies from the University of Gloucestershire, and studies at the Free Theological Academy (FTA) Giessen. His academic lineage includes supervision by Prof. Dr. Armin D. Baum (Leuven) and Prof. Dr. Stefan Paas (Amsterdam).
Research interests integrate practical theology with contemporary church dynamics, particularly in free-church contexts. He has contributed to theological education and pastoral ministry theory through his academic work and pastoral practice.
