Florentine Koppenborg serves as a Researcher at the Department of Environmental and Climate Policy within the School of Politics and Public Policy at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), where she has contributed since October 2017. Her work centers on energy and climate policy transformations with specialized expertise in Japanese political systems, examining critical intersections between technological phase-outs and sustainability governance.
Her research program investigates energy transitions through comparative lenses, particularly analyzing nuclear and coal phase-out dynamics in Germany and Japan. Key interests include the evolution of "phase-out" as a bridging concept in sustainability science, climate securitization discourses, and geopolitical implications of energy policy shifts following events like Russia's Ukraine invasion. This work integrates political science, environmental policy, and Japanese studies to address governance challenges in decarbonization.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a methodological emphasis on comparative case studies and discourse analysis, with growing focus on "phase-out clubs" as emerging climate governance tools.
