Florencia Lopez Boo is a Research Professor and Director of Global TIES at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, within the Department of Applied Psychology. She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Oxford (with an Oxford University Press Award/Clarendon Scholarship), master’s degrees in Development Economics (University of Namur) and Economics (Catholic University of Louvain), and a bachelor’s in Economics (University of Buenos Aires).
Her research focuses on interdisciplinary evaluations of large-scale social programs in low/middle-income countries, particularly Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Combining economics, behavioral sciences, and neuroscience, she designs randomized controlled trials to improve child and family well-being. Her work has influenced policy changes through publications in high-impact journals like The Lancet, Journal of Human Resources, and JAMA Pediatrics.
Prior to NYU, she served as Lead Economist at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), leading their Early Childhood Development (ECD) agenda and ECD Innovation Fund. She advises LAC governments on human development policies and is affiliated with Oxford University’s Department of International Development. She co-founded networks promoting women economists and diversity in global academia.
