Florence Paterson is a sociologist and research engineer at CSI-i3, affiliated with École des Mines de Paris (PSL University). Her research focuses on the sociology and anthropology of medicine and disability, particularly exploring ethics in organ transplantation, patient organizations' roles in biomedical research, and the socio-legal implications of genomics in criminal justice. She collaborates with Vololona Rabeharisoa and Madeleine Akrich on projects involving patient advocacy groups and rare disease innovations. Previously, she served as Associate Editor of Alter-European Journal of Disability Research (2007–2017).
Her work integrates historical analysis of disability movements, technical governance of health issues, and the material dimensions of legal practices. Current projects include studying DNA use in criminal trials and pharmaceutical innovation dynamics for rare diseases.
Publications span topics from genetic diagnosis ethics to the socio-legal analysis of forensic evidence preservation. Her research bridges anthropology, medical sociology, and science policy, emphasizing participatory approaches with patient communities.
