Florence Ayisi is a Professor of International Documentary Film at the University of South Wales' Faculty of Business and Creative Industries (School of Production and Performance). With over 28 years of teaching experience across UK institutions like the University of Sunderland and Coventry University, she specializes in documentary film theory, transnational cinema, and decolonial media practices.
Her research explores Pan-African, ecofeminist, and postcolonial perspectives, using film to amplify marginalized voices. She has directed acclaimed documentaries including Sisters in Law (Oscar-shortlisted) and The Bronze Men of Cameroon.
Awards include:
- Black History Wales Community Award (2023)
- Congressional Recognition from California (2022)
- Over 30 international film awards
She co-led the ESRC-funded Co-POWeR project (2021-2023) on COVID-19's impact on BAME communities and collaborates with UNESCO, Tanzanian women's groups, and Cameroonian cultural institutions.
