Dr. Flora Chuang is an Associate Professor of Mandarin Chinese at Hope College, where she has been developing the Mandarin program since 2015. Fluent in modern Mandarin, classical Chinese, and Japanese, she teaches courses ranging from beginning to advanced language levels, as well as interdisciplinary seminars like From Confucius to Kung Fu and Visualizing China in Transition.

Her research focuses on the intersection of Chinese literature, Taiwanese cinema, and cultural theory. She has presented extensively on East Asian popular culture, particularly analyzing how New Taiwanese Cinema shapes transnational Sinophone identities and cinematic narrative techniques. Her recent publications highlight film reception across Greater China and pedagogical innovations in language instruction.
Dr. Chuang is affiliated with ASIANetwork, the Modern Language Association, the Association for Asian Studies, and the Chinese Language Teachers Association. She resides in Holland, Michigan, with her family and enjoys cooking, jogging, and exploring the local area.
