Floortje van der Hilst

Floortje van der Hilst is Associate Professor in Energy & Resources at Utrecht University's Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development. She coordinates international research projects assessing environmental and socioeconomic impacts of land use changes related to biomass production. Her work examines sustainable pathways for bioenergy development across multiple continents including Africa, South America, and Europe.

Research methodologies integrate spatial modeling, life-cycle assessment, and interdisciplinary sustainability frameworks. Current projects investigate carbon stock dynamics, agricultural intensification impacts, and bioenergy system optimization. Van der Hilst co-chairs IEA Bioenergy Task 45 focusing on bioenergy sustainability standards.
