Dr. Fleur Velders is an Assistant Professor at Utrecht University and Medical Head of Care Line/Psychiatrist at UMC Utrecht, specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry with expertise in mental vulnerability in children (0-6 years), developmental delays, and genetic variants like 22q11.2 deletion syndrome.
Her research centers on person-centered care innovation for developmental disorders, utilizing wearable technology for real-time behavioral monitoring and transdiagnostic text analysis to transform clinical practice. Within the KIDS care program (Knowledge and Innovation of Diagnostics in Systems), she pioneers network-based care models placing children and families at the center of mental health interventions.
Recent publications (2020-2025) reveal a clear trajectory toward technology-integrated child psychiatry, combining psychophysiological wearables, genetic syndrome case studies, and AI-driven clinical text analysis to address developmental stalls and mental vulnerability through personalized approaches.
As part of UMC Utrecht's Innovation in Psychiatry research group under the strategic 'Brain' program, she drives initiatives using multi-source data for personalized mental health prediction and treatment. Her external role on the Dutch Youth Institute's Recognition Committee evaluates youth care interventions for effectiveness and implementation.
