Flavio D'Abramo

Flavio D'Abramo is a Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin. He held a visiting postdoctoral fellowship in Department I (2019–2020) and a postdoctoral position in the Lise Meitner Research Group 'China in the Global System of Science' (2021). His work examines how biomedical knowledge and technologies are shaped by geopolitical, economic, and cultural forces. He earned his PhD in Philosophy and History of Biology from Sapienza University of Rome in 2012.

Research focuses on the intersection of bioscience, public health systems, and global governance. Key topics include health diplomacy, antimicrobial resistance, and epigenetics as political instruments. His recent project explores how health crises like Covid-19 reveal tensions between scientific expertise and geopolitical agendas.

Teaching includes courses on 'Public Health and the Anthropocene' at Tel Aviv University and 'The Cultural and Political Origins of Biology' at Bard College Berlin. He has presented at major conferences, including the Society for Social Studies of Science and Harvard Law School, addressing themes like epigenetics' neoliberal framing and the political load of pandemic management.
