معرفی
Flavia Fontanesi is an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Miami. She holds a primary appointment in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and has been recognized with the Stanley J. Glaser Research Award.
Education:
- 2005: Ph.D. in Biotechnology, University of Parma, Italy
- 2001: M.S. in Biological Sciences, University of Parma, Italy
- 2008: Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Miami
Research Interests:
Fontanesi's research is centered on the molecular mechanisms underlying mitochondrial biogenesis. Her work explores how mitochondrial DNA is maintained and expressed, and how the enzymatic complexes of the oxidative phosphorylation system are assembled and organized. This research has critical implications for understanding mitochondrial diseases and cellular energy metabolism.
Scientific Awards:
- Stanley J. Glaser Research Award – University of Miami
Professional Activities:
- Editor, IUBMB Life (2024 – Present)
Fontanesi has contributed to leading journals such as Trends in Biochemical Sciences, Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, and Science, with her recent work focusing on mitochondrial gene expression and structural biology.
