Flavia DeSouza, MD, MHS, is a Clinical Instructor in Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine, affiliated with Yale University. She completed her MD and MHS at Yale School of Medicine (2016) and holds a BA from Wesleyan University (2005). Her research focuses on mental health disparities, cultural psychiatry, and global mental health, with recent work addressing the psychological impacts of racism and church closures on African American communities during the pandemic. She has authored an editorial on prenatal stress and autism spectrum traits linked to immigration-related discrimination. Dr. DeSouza has received numerous awards, including the Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship and the American Psychoanalytic Association Fellowship. She actively participates in leadership programs and psychoanalytic education initiatives.
Her academic contributions span clinical practice, education, and advocacy, with a strong emphasis on health equity. Collaborations include work with the Connecticut State Medical Society and the Harvard Macy Institute. She is also involved in global mental health initiatives through Yale’s programs.
