Flaminia Giacomini is an SNSF Ambizione Fellow at ETH Zurich and a Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow at Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. She previously held the Yvonne Choquet-Bruhat postdoctoral fellowship at Perimeter Institute and is a member of the Foundational Questions Institute (FQXi). Starting in 2025, she leads the Q-GraSp project as Principal Investigator at the University of Rome 'Tor Vergata'.
Her research employs quantum information tools to investigate fundamental questions at the interface between general relativity and quantum theory. Her work spans gravitational quantum physics, quantum clocks as probes of nonclassical spacetime, quantum reference frames, and the quantum state of the gravitational field. She has contributed significantly to understanding gravitationally-induced entanglement and the limits of measurability in quantum spacetime.

Her most notable publication, 'Quantum effects in gravity beyond the Newton potential from a delocalised quantum source,' earned her the 2024 Blaumann prize shared with Lin-Qing Chen. This work represents significant progress in understanding quantum effects in gravity beyond classical approximations.

As Principal Investigator of the Q-GraSp project funded by the Italian Ministry of Research, she leads a research group investigating 'Quantum systems as Gravitational sources: nonclassical Spacetime in informational terms.' She actively recruits PhD students and postdoctoral researchers for this project at University of Rome 'Tor Vergata' and previously at ETH Zurich. She serves on the Scientific and Organising Committee for the QISS initiative conference, fostering dialogue between physics and philosophy.
She is an active educator, having delivered lectures at the Basics of Quantum Gravity online school covering quantum interferometers, Bell's theorem, process matrices, gravitational quantum physics, and quantum clocks as probes of nonclassical spacetime. Her research group at ETH Zurich is part of the ETH Quantum Centre and the National Centre of Competence in Research SwissMAP.
