Associate Professor Firat Akcan is affiliated with Gaziantep University, currently serving in the Faculty of Sports Sciences, Department of Coach Education. He previously held a lecturer position at the same institution from 2013 to 2019.
- Doctorate in Physiology (2018), Master's in Physical Education and Sports (2013), and Licence in Physical Education and Sports Teaching (2008) from Gaziantep University.
- Core research areas include Exercise Physiology, Physical Activity and Health, Sports Training, and Rehabilitation.
His work explores reaction times in athletes, effects of exercise on body composition, recovery techniques, and health outcomes in diverse populations. He has contributed to understanding physical adaptations and sociocultural dimensions of sports, including disabled athletes and traditional wrestling.
He supervised numerous student theses on topics like core training, mental training in soccer, and exercise protocols for rehabilitation. His projects include a national-level study on serum irisin levels during exercise (2018).
As Deputy Head of Department (2013–2019) and course instructor for advanced physiology and kinesiology, he bridges scientific research with practical coaching education, focusing on athlete performance and public health initiatives.
