Professor Bekir Mendes is affiliated with Gaziantep University under its Faculty of Sports Sciences, specifically the Department of Coaching Education. With a career spanning over two decades, he has served as an Associate Professor since 2018 and a Lecturer from 1998 to 2013. His academic journey began with a Licence degree from Gazi University (1987–1991), followed by a Master’s (2000) and a Doctorate (2012) in Physical Education and Sports from Firat University.

Mendes’ research focuses on Sports Sciences, particularly Physical Activity and Health, Physical Fitness, and Exercise Physiology. His work explores body composition, obesity management, and sports performance metrics. His recent publications analyze core training effects, bone density, and fitness interventions for diverse populations, including children and adults.
A review of his 15 most recent articles reveals trends in physical activity’s impact on cardiovascular risk factors, muscle-bone relationships, and recreational sports programs. Subfields include trampoline training for youth, core stability in football, and environmental influences on aerobic capacity.
Mendes has supervised numerous PhD and Master’s theses, including studies on reformer pilates for obese women and small-sided games in soccer. His scientific contributions extend to books like Physical Education and Sports Research and Academic Studies in Sports Sciences, addressing topics such as BMI analysis and gender-based fitness disparities.
Projects led by Mendes include investigations into muscle strength and bone density (2016–2018) and recreational activities’ effects on prisoners’ biomarkers (2016–2017). He served as Head of Department at Gaziantep University in 2021 and is a member of the Turkish Judo and Kurash Federation Science Board and the Turkish Football Coaches Association.
