Fiona Smyth

Professor Fiona Smyth is Deputy Dean and Vice-Dean for Teaching, Learning and Students at the University of Manchester's Faculty of Humanities. As Senior Lecturer in Geography within the School of Environment, Education and Development, she specializes in cultural geography and the social constructions of health and disease.

Professor Smyth has extensive leadership experience in academic administration, having served as Head of Geography and Director of Teaching and Learning for SEED. She oversees annual field courses to Cuba and maintains research interests in fieldwork pedagogy, skills development, and assessment innovation.

Her contributions to geography education include editorial roles at Geography Review and the Journal of Geography in Higher Education. Professor Smyth has participated in numerous university-wide initiatives including Ethical Grand Challenges and the Online Education Strategy Group.
