معرفی
Professor Fiona Fylan is a Health Psychologist at Leeds Beckett University, School of Built Environment, Engineering and Computing. She leads the Sustainable Behaviour team within the Leeds Sustainability Institute, focusing on behaviour change in energy, transport, and healthcare. Her work bridges psychology with sustainability policy and practice.
Her research interests centre on understanding and modifying human behaviour for healthier and more sustainable outcomes. Key areas include public acceptance of hydrogen as a domestic fuel, promoting active travel, reducing aggressive driving, improving home energy efficiency, and enhancing healthcare engagement. She applies behavioural science to design and evaluate real-world interventions.
The recent publications and projects highlight a strong focus on decarbonisation, public perception of emerging technologies, and scalable behaviour change programs. Her work frequently informs national policy, particularly in energy and road safety. She leads social sciences input into the UK’s domestic hydrogen strategy and develops evidence-based training for over 1.5 million road users annually.
Scientific Awards & Recognition:
- International recognition for road safety efforts (2021)
- Development of award-winning road user behaviour change courses
Advising and Grants: While specific advisees are not listed, Fiona leads major interdisciplinary research initiatives. She secures and manages research funding for projects such as public perception of hydrogen heating, drug driving behaviour change, and home energy retrofits. Her work translates into government policy and large-scale public interventions, demonstrating significant grant impact and leadership.
Labs and Teams: Fiona leads the Sustainable Behaviour team at the Leeds Sustainability Institute. This interdisciplinary group investigates how social and psychological factors influence sustainability choices in homes, transport, and health. The team collaborates with police forces, government agencies, and environmental organisations to co-develop and evaluate behaviour change strategies.
