Finian Bannon is a Lecturer in the Centre for Public Health at Queen's University Belfast's School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences. He specializes in statistical methodologies to enhance understanding of cancer patient survival outcomes, focusing on causal inference, survival analysis, and observational data applications. His work contributes to global health initiatives like the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Research Interests: Bannon develops statistical tools to measure undertreatment in elderly cancer patients and evaluates cancer care metrics for Northern Ireland's health strategy. He led projects on Route-to-Diagnosis flagging for cancer patients and robust survival estimate thresholds for fine-scale comparisons. His current PhD proposal explores causal inference in cancer audit datasets to address underrepresented groups like the elderly and rare cancer patients.
Clinical and Collaborative Work: Bannon collaborated with the Northern Ireland Cancer Registry (NICR) and CONCORD (London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine). He co-led a Health Foundation project and contributed to the UK and Ireland Association of Cancer Registries.
Advising & Grants: Supervised a PhD thesis on lung cancer undertreatment and served on advisory panels for the Northern Ireland Public Health Agency. His research includes grants on self-harm registries and cancer survival methodologies.
