Prof. Dr. Filiz Ögce serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Izmir University of Economics, where she has established herself as a leading figure in nursing academia with expertise in surgical nursing and perioperative care. Her academic journey began at Ege University, where she earned her nursing degree in 1990, followed by a Master's in 1998 and PhD in 2004, all in Surgical Nursing. With over three decades of experience spanning clinical practice and academic leadership, she brings valuable insights to nursing education and research.
Her educational background includes:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Ege University (1990)
- Master's Degree in Surgical Nursing from Ege University (1998)
- PhD in Surgical Nursing from Ege University (2004)
Prof. Ögce's research focuses on critical areas of perioperative nursing, including pressure injury prevention, surgical site infections, and the psychological impacts of medical procedures on patients and healthcare workers. She has conducted significant research on wound healing during her time at Melbourne University with Prof. Nick Santamaria through YOK scholarships. Her recent work demonstrates growing interest in the mental health of operating room nurses, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, while maintaining her focus on evidence-based practices to improve surgical outcomes and patient safety. Her research methodology spans both quantitative and qualitative approaches, often incorporating international collaborations.
Her publication record from 2019-2025 shows consistent productivity with a clear thematic focus on perioperative care challenges, particularly pressure injury prevention and surgical site infections. The increasing international collaboration in her work (evident in the 2024 multinational study across Turkey, Croatia, and Italy) demonstrates the growing recognition of her research beyond national borders. Many studies address practical clinical problems while contributing to theoretical understanding of nursing practice.
Professional leadership positions include:
- Chairman of Turkish Surgical and Operating Room Nurses Association (since 2014)
- Turkiye Representative, European Association of Operating Room Nurses (EORNA)
- Turkiye Representative, International Federation of Perioperative Nurses (IFPN)
As an academic leader, Prof. Ögce played a pivotal role in establishing the Faculty of Health Sciences at Izmir University of Economics in 2013-2014. Her research program has secured international collaborations and scholarly recognition, including an ORCID identifier (0000-0002-5926-3062) and presence in major academic databases. Her work bridges clinical practice with academic research, consistently aiming to translate findings into improved patient care protocols and nursing education standards.
Currently, as Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, she oversees academic programs while maintaining an active research agenda that addresses contemporary challenges in nursing practice and healthcare delivery, particularly in surgical settings.
