معرفی
Filippo Spertino is a Full Professor at the Department of Energy (DENERG) of the Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy, specializing in photovoltaic systems and renewable energy technologies. His research focuses on solar energy generation, wind power, and electrical grid integration, with expertise in both theoretical modeling and experimental verification of photovoltaic systems including performance analysis, defect detection, and optimization of energy production.
Spertino earned his degree in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Turin in 1994/95 and completed his PhD in 1999/2000. His academic progression includes Technical Collaborator (1997-2001), Tenured Researcher (2001-2014), Associate Professor (2014-2022), and Full Professor since November 2022. He has published over 150 works with more than 2,700 citations and an h-index of 28.
His research encompasses photovoltaic cells and modules, wind turbines, and renewable energy systems, with specific focus on experimental modeling of electrical performance and potential defects in photovoltaic generators, planning installations of renewable energy systems based on resource forecasting, and developing photovoltaic solutions for Nearly Zero Energy Buildings within energy communities. His work addresses critical challenges in renewable energy integration, grid stability, and sustainable energy management across Mediterranean contexts and international development projects.
Spertino's recent publications demonstrate a strong emphasis on practical applications of photovoltaic technologies, including power forecasting methodologies, advanced thermo-electric modeling approaches, microgrid implementation strategies, and international educational initiatives for renewable energy capacity building. His research consistently bridges theoretical advances with real-world implementation challenges.
- 2020 MIT A+B Applied Energy Symposium - Best Paper Award
Spertino has advised multiple PhD students including Stefano Schubert (researching photovoltaic cell characterization) and Angela Amato (completed thesis on 'The PVZEN lab: an energy community with PV systems and storage'). He has secured significant research funding including the THREE LANKA project (2021-2024) for renewable energy training in Sri Lanka and the EUMong project (2017-2021) for engineering education modernization in Mongolia.
He leads research within the GUSEE and SOLAR groups at DENERG, with laboratory work centered around the PVZEN Microgrid - an academic laboratory for all-electric energy communities that serves as a testbed for innovative energy management strategies, community energy systems, and grid integration solutions for renewable energy sources.
